Dear Parents
It’s hard to fathom that we have had 18 weeks since school started in August and are just under halfway through the school year.
Curriculum News
Sharing the Planet
The students have now started our new unit of inquiry Sharing the Planet and this will launch them into the Exhibition after the Christmas break.
The students are at the moment inquiring into a range of issues and categorizing them into global, local and personal groups. They will then look at how people use a range of different strategies to solve problems and make a difference. After this the students will focus on one particular issue and see how people come up with solutions for this issue and how they might try to solve it for themselves.
Maths
Mathematics after Christmas looks at fractions and in particular these areas:-
- Converting between fractions, decimals and percentages
- Simplifying fractions
- Solving problems when adding and subtracting fractions
- Converting improper fractions to mixed numbers
- Finding percentages of quantities without using a calculator
- Solving ratio problems
Language
Our language is very much connected with the units of inquiry and the students will start to learn how to journal. They will be journaling their learning and progress through the Exhibition and using these entries to help them reflect on what they are learning throughout this process.
It has been a great term and we have seen a lot of growth in independence and maturity from the Year 6 students. We are proud of the effort they put into their learning each day and how they respect and positively interact with each other.
May we take this chance to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and we look forwards to seeing you all in 2020!
