Daily Itinerary

DAY 1 (Saturday, 16 Nov 2019)

From Hanoi airport, then to the first hotel by bus. This trip will take approximately 1.5 hours and is an entertaining experience full of chaotic traffic, distinctive architecture and overloaded motorbikes. Once you leave Hanoi, you will experience verdant rice fields and small country villages on the drive to La Ferme du Colvert, located in Hoa Binh province. This rural retreat provides an excellent snapshot into Vietnamese countryside life. The meals are made with mostly organic, locally grown produce, much of which comes from the property itself. Accommodation is in traditional longhouse style rooms.

Day 2 (Sunday, 17 Nov 2019)

The group will be split into smaller groups and participate in a team challenge day. Possible Challenge activities include:

  • Masterchef – Each group will be introduced to the basics of Vietnamese cooking and then subdivided to practice preparing a dish for themselves. The first challenge is to find the ingredients in the surrounding herb garden. There will be different steps to the preparation, creating a team challenge and MasterChef type environment as the teams will be judged on presentation and flavour. The idea is to have students doing as much preparation, cooking and cleaning-up as is practical and safe with a clear set of guidelines for each stage.
  • Art project. This may involve utilizing materials from the environment e.g. leaves, feathers etc and making a collage to decorate the FDC library/classroom. Alternatively sketching scenes around the resort or the local scenery. Can be adapted according to DC’s art syllabus. The team with the best production wins the prize. It may also be painting a Vietnamese hat, also to be used as decoration or dress up by the local students. Alternatively, the DC students could make some toys for didactic purposes e.g. large fluffy dice, etc
  • Paint a mural at the resort or the local school. Students will work towards a mural which will beautify the environment and leave a permanent mark of the DC visit. This project can be incorporated into pre-trip art studies with students designing the prospective mural or similar. The wall could be split into sections and each team draws a part each, based on a design by one of the travelling students.
  • Team building outdoor activity – Egg & spoon races, Sack races, Blowing a ping pong ball across cups of water. The water has to be filled in the cups first using teamwork with a leaky cup (a plastic glass with holes drilled in it).
  • Paint eggs/ Easter egg type hunt – Students paint eggs and these are judged for quality of workmanship/beauty so there is a winning student/team for this part. Then during afternoon tea, all eggs are hidden around the property with clues about where to find them (or no clues). The teams then have 20 minutes to roam around the property and gather as many as possible.
  • Quali-Tea – Students are taught the history of tea in Vietnam and the importance of Viet Culture and customs. They are also taught how to pick tea, then each team is given a basket to fill. A prize for the team that fills it the fastest but the local judge has to check the quality of the leaves picked and then make a pot to do the taste test.

Free time before dinner to enjoy the resort which is spread over 25 hectares of land, offering activities like fishing, biking, swimming pool and many encounters with farm animals all in an amazing natural setting under blue sky.
