World Toilet Day

Posted by Peter MUIR

Imagine if you didn’t have a toilet to use.  Not only would it be embarrassing, and somewhat degrading, it would also have a big impact on your health.  In fact, the UN have said that having access to a toilet is a basic human right.

Around the world, 2.5 billion people lack access to safe sanitation.  Children are particularly vulnerable to the water-based diseases that a lack of sanitation causes – approximately 700,000 children die globally every year from diarrhoea caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation. That’s almost 2,000 children a day!

World Toilet Day on 19 November is an opportunity to learn about the importance of bringing sanitation to all. World Toilet Day also brings to the forefront the health, emotional and psychological consequences the poor endure as a result of inadequate sanitation.  To check out how you could get involved in this day, click here.
