Sharing for a Cause 2017

Posted by Peter MUIR

Not sure what to do with your old storybooks? Or simply looking for a fun and meaningful way to make local and regional impact?

Kids4Kids is hosting its 7th annual Sharing for a Cause donation campaign from May 1-31, 2017, to collect English storybooks for children aged 3-12. Donated books will help build mini libraries in Kids4Kids‘ local community centre partners, and benefit regional communities in need via Crossroads Foundation.

DC Kids4Kids is a proud supporter of literacy development and creative childhoods. We will place donation boxes in the G/F Foyer Entrance and invite the DC community to get involved and share for a cause!  Donate today!

CDF – Volunteers Wanted

Posted by Peter MUIR

The Child Development Fund (CDF), aims to support longer-term development of children from a disadvantaged background, with a view to an alleviating inter-generational poverty. The CDF funds projects operated by non-governmental organisations and schools throughout the Hong Kong. These projects seek to encourage children to plan for their future, develop a savings habit, and accumulate intangible assets such as positive attitudes, personal resilience, social networks, etc., which are all useful attributes for future development. The CDF is a meaningful project to support the youth who are from the low-income families to develop their talents and pursue their dreams!

The programme is seeking volunteers (from Years 8-11) to help in various aspects. There will be meeting on 10th May (Wed) and 18th May (Thur) at lunch time (1:30-2:30) to help develop ideas including the funding briefing and fund-raising planning.  If you interested in joining or hearing more about the programme, please email Kate on kate.tse@dc.edu.hk before May 5th.

Serve-a-thon Hong Kong brings together NGOs, corporates, government, media and civil society in collaboration to raise public awareness about the importance of community engagement in helping address social issues.

Over nine days, from May 6th through May 14th, the city will unite in service through hundreds of volunteer activities taking place across Hong Kong. This Hong Kong-wide ‘service marathon’ offers volunteer opportunities for individuals, families, schools, civic organizations and corporations to come together and serve the community.

With Serve-a-thon just around the corner, from Saturday 6th to Sunday 14th May, now is the time to visit the volunteer activity calendar (scroll ahead to May) and sign up for an activity during Hong Kong’s first-ever ‘Community Service Marathon’.
