A visit to the Who Will village in Cambodia was one of the various learning experiences that DC students engaged in during our No Boundaries week.  Here is a short glimpse of some of the activities the students were involved in during the week.

Advocacy – getting involved in a cause

Some recent research has been reported in the media as the first research to identify which fossil fuel reserves must not be burned to keep global temperature rise under 2C, the limit set that will enable our planet to be able to deal with the impact of climate change.  The reserves indicated in the research includes over 90% of US and Australian coal and almost all Canadian tar sands.  It is news such as this (and the observable impacts of climate change) that inspires people to want to change the way they, and we, do things.  This is what we call Advocacy, which is one of the modes of service that you could get involved in in your Community Engagement efforts. 350.org is running an Advocacy campaign that is steering investors to dump their fossil fuel stocks, and provides ideas and assistance if you wanted to be an advocate for their cause.  Advocacy is one way of getting involved in Community Engagement; what cause would you be interested in supporting?
