Looking for a Cantonese teacher

Posted by Peter MUIR

No experience required, but enthusiasm and commitment a must!

Vision First is looking for volunteers to help teach Cantonese to refugees/asylum seekers (open to DP students only).  You obviously need to be proficient in Cantonese.  You could do this as a pair – it would be a cool CAS project to get involved in!

  • You will teach Beginners Cantonese
  • Each class will have approximately 15 adults
  • You will be required to make a lesson plan for each class (VF resources such as paper, printer ink, stationary and computers will be at your disposal)
  • You must be able to commit to this job for the next three months

We ask that all volunteers be comfortable working in a multi-cultural environment.   Please contact Danielle Stutterd (danielle@vfnow.org) at Vision First as soon as possible if you are interested.

Work to eliminate bullying

October in the US is  is Bullying Prevention Month—a time when students, educators, friends, and parents unite to raise awareness for bully prevention.  For ideas on ways you could create a service project aiming to increase awareness about bullying, and decrease its prevalence, check out this blog from Youth Service America and see what their youth ambassadors are doing to stand up against bullying.

Additionally, No Name-Calling Week is another initiative in the US.  It is an annual week of educational activities aimed at ending name-calling of all kinds and providing schools with the tools and inspiration to launch an on-going dialogue about ways to eliminate bullying in their communities.
