Result: 38-12 (L) v Kellett

On Thursday 5 December, the DC U16 Boys B Team played an away game against Kellett School. The starting lineup for the Cobras consisted of Ben Hallam playing at the point guard position, Lawrence Heggie at the shooting guard position, Steven Dino at small forward with Fionn Tameifuna playing power forward, and Charlie Albrighton playing Centre.

The team was off to a slow start but started picking up the pace, especially on the defensive end, from the 2nd quarter onwards. The final score was 12-38 resulting in a loss for the DC Cobras. The free throw line was a challenge as the team only made 7% of the free throws that we had as a whole. Despite the improvements needed to be made for the team’s offensive game, DC’s defence was great that game. Even though the team lost, James Murphy and Charlie Albrighton kept the glass clean by securing many defensive rebounds while Josh Jones snatched himself plenty of steals. Fionn also got it done with offensive rebounds. Overall the team could have done much better on the offensive end but if that can be improved and the team can keep its defensive pressure high, the team can surely grab more wins.

Result: 16-58(L) v CIS

Today the girls played against CIS. There are some obvious improvements from their first game, however, there was some lack of energy when the other team started scoring. The girls showed some good shooting and dribbling skills and were communicating with each other better than in their first game. They look forward to their next match with high spirits and a belief that they can win.

Result: 37-23 (W) v CDNIS

On Tuesday 3 December, DC U16 Basketball played a home game against CDNIS. Their tallest player was around 6’1, so we clearly had the height advantage as we had 3 players over 6 feet. In the first quarter we were up 22 to 5. Our shooting was on point and were able to make many open layups. Their game was mostly interior as they had no consistent shooters. They were left with no game plan because we blocked their shots nearly every time when they stepped in the paint. In the second quarter we still maintained this massive lead, so halfway through this quarter we rolled out our bench. CDNIS were able to make a slight comeback and shorten the gap between our scores, due to their starting lineup still being on the court. In the 3rd quarter, we put our starting 5 back on to prevent them from making a lucky comeback. By doing this we were able to reestablish the large lead and left the game to our bench for the last quarter as we already won the game.
