Thank you to all the parents who came and participated during our Celebration of Learning. Not only were we so happy with the students and all they achieved, we were really impressed with the enthusiasm shown by parents. Thank you for visiting many different children, asking great questions and making such positive comments. I know the students all really appreciated it too.
Central Idea: Communities have systems for producing and distributing food which affect the choices we make.
Lines of Inquiry: We are inquiring into:
The systems for producing and distributing food (Function)
The reasons for different production and distribution methods (Causation)
How we choose the food we eat (Reflection)
During this unit students will, again, be honing their research skills while inquiring into different foods and how they end up on our tables. They will be writing an explanation of how one food is produced and also creating a short video that describes the process visually.
Due to the fact that we have been spending so much time researching and using articles and non-fiction books, we are also introducing a mini reading unit that focusses on exploring, discovering and enjoying books. Throughout this unit students will be reading a variety of fiction books, sharing and recommending books to others, and reflecting on the books that they love. This will also be an opportunity to inquire into the comprehension strategy of inferencing.
Our next unit in mathematics is measurement. See what we are learning below:
