Welcome to Year 3
What an amazing start to the year with our first full week of school completed! You would hardly believe that the children have only been back for 5 days when you see how well they have settled into their new routines and into their new classes. We have all been very impressed and extremely proud of the positive attitude and eagerness to engage in the wide variety of learning engagements this week has offered.
Our first week has been a focus on establishing relationships within and beyond the class as well as setting up class ‘Essential Agreements’ and expected behaviours in order to ensure a smooth start to the year.
We had our first Year 3 Assembly this morning where we introduced the theme of having an EPIC year to the students.
We look forward to working closely with you throughout the year and seeing as many of you as possible at the Parent Information Fair on 31st August.
Here is how the Year 3 team is organised this year:
End of Day
In Year 3 students are dismissed from class differently to in Y2. We encourage you to organise a consistent place in the foyer to meet your child. Students walking home with an adult, and who have not been collected, have been informed to go to the PLT office to wait.
There will be no fluency book borrowing until September 1st for any year group. Until then students are able to borrow extra library books and we are focusing on reading for pleasure and how to choose ‘just right’ books when browsing in the library. We will provide more information about our language programme at the Parent Information Evening on Thursday 31st August and in future blog posts.
This year we have slightly changed our systems for stationery in Year 3. In the past students have been given their second PTA pack. We have found that this has resulted in students carrying heavy bags of equipment back and forth to school each day. This year all the equipment has been delivered directly to the classrooms and will stay in class. It will be distributed as needed. Teachers will help students to gradually become independent in their organisation and use of the equipment. At the end of the school year students will be able to take any unused stationery home with them.
We hope you will enjoy our Blog as a way of keeping in touch with what your child is doing in Year 3, in the meantime, if you have any questions or queries do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher through email.
