U12 Girls A Football, Division 1

The Girls A team qualified for the finals day after going unbeaten throughout the season. The team was a mix of Y6-8 girls which will hopefully mean the team has strength going into next season as well.
In the semi-finals, DC had to play ICS and it ended up being a very tough match, as it had been in the league. Most of the pressure was applied by DC and a lot of chances were created, however everything seemed to go straight at the ICS goalkeeper. In the end ICS somehow scored from a very tight angle and then scored another from outside the box. DC fought back and finally got a goal. It was looking like we would get an equaliser as the opposition were under lots of pressure but in the end it didn’t come. The heat seemed to drain the energy from a lot of players legs and we were unable to produce our usual high tempo game.

In the 3rd/4th place playoff, we played against ICS whom we had drawn with earlier in the season. With the knowledge that there was no medal for 4th place, the girls were up for the game and managed to find their old form but again were struggling to beat the keeper with shots going straight at her. Finally the break through came before half time and with that the relief. Everyone had an extra spring in their legs and DC dominated the game creating chance after chance and eventually running out 3 or 4/0 winners.
The girls showed a great squad effort throughout the season and deservedly came away with a medal, although another colour would have been nice. There had been 4 very even teams during the season and in football we know it is all about taking your chances and unfortunately in the semi-final we didn’t. The spirit shown by the girls was fantastic and hopefully they all keep playing football for many years to come.

The Boys A team made it through to finals day despite starting the season with 2 close losses. With a change of tactics they won their remaining games to make the semi-finals.
In the semis, they were drawn against Harrow who’d previously beaten them. The team, with their new found confidence, started brightly and had a few good chances before Cole made a good save to keep the scores level. The team raised their level again with some great passing, tracking, vision and discipline that had Harrow chasing shadows. In the end DC won 8-1 to progress comfortably to the final.

In the final, DC was facing HKIS who had won every game during the season. It ended up being a tightly fought match with few opportunities as both teams knew the dangers the other team possessed after seeing each others semi-final results. Both sides had 2 to 3 opportunities but were unable to put a chance away mainly due to good goalkeeping. The game therefore went to penalties and DC came out on top after they scored all of theirs and HKIS had one saved and sent another wide.
The result meant that DC had retained the ISSFHK U12 Division 1 title that they won 12 months earlier. A great season with real improvement shown by the team. Well Done.
