In the semi-finals, our girls played ISF. In a game they thought would be relatively straightforward we took the first two games, but ISF fought back to have us level at 2 games each. In the final game Roxanne showed her character by confidently beating her opposition 21:6 to secure our place in the finals. In the finals we were up against RCHK. With captain Coraline in the lead we confidently won the first two games, but RCHK fought back to win the next two games to level the score. Roxanne again took us over the line with a win in the 5th game.

U20 Girls Football

If there were nerves ahead of this game then the team did not outwardly display any. Everyone seemed very calm on the bus journey to the ground. The fixture was the final of the U20 Girls Division 2 of the Gold Division of ISSFHK, and was against HKIS, whom the girls had beaten 7-1 only a few weeks previously. This was an entirely different match though, with both teams fighting hard for every tackle and every loose ball. The nerves might have been getting to the team when DC conceded through a back pass from defence to goalkeeper that didn’t quite get there. The ball was intercepted by HKIS who scored to draw first blood in the final. It’s situations like this where you see what you’re made of, and girls certainly showed they are made of tough stuff. They displayed great resilience by overturning the 1 nil deficit to lead the game 2-1 at half-time. In the second half there were chances at both ends with each team giving absolutely everything they had.

In the end some resolute DC defending ensured that the game finished 2-1 to The Cobras, with the girls being crowned champions of Division 2. The team didn’t have the best start to the season, losing our first 2 games, so to turn that around with a good run of wins and then to win in the final, the girls deserve great credit and the enjoyment of their success.
